Overview
Set out on an unforgettable 5-day, 4-night overland journey across Java, beginning in Yogyakarta, where ancient temples and living traditions set the tone for your adventure. Start with visits to the magnificent Borobudur Temple, the world’s largest Buddhist monument, and the graceful Prambanan Temple, a masterpiece of Hindu architecture—offering a cultural introduction to Java’s rich heritage.
Leaving the cultural heartland behind, travel east toward the lush highlands of East Java and descend into the dramatic landscape of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. Often called the “Niagara of Java,” its powerful multi-tiered cascades framed by tropical forest create one of the island’s most breathtaking natural scenes and a highlight for nature lovers and photographers alike.
Continue toward Mount Bromo, staying overnight near the volcano. Wake before dawn to witness a spectacular sunrise over Bromo’s vast caldera, followed by a jeep ride across the Sea of Sand and a walk to the crater rim, where the smoking volcano and otherworldly scenery reveal Java’s raw volcanic power.
Late at night, depart for the Ijen Plateau to begin a midnight trek to Ijen Crater. Hike under the stars to experience the rare blue fire phenomenon and watch sunrise illuminate the turquoise acidic crater lake, an extraordinary natural spectacle found in only a few places on Earth.
Conclude your journey with a scenic drive to Ketapang Port, where you’ll cross the strait toward Bali, bringing an end to a perfectly balanced adventure that blends sacred temples, dramatic waterfalls, iconic volcanoes, and seamless overland travel across Java.
